Notes from the Winemaker

Viu 1 is made from the best Malbec grapes from Block 4 of our San Carlos vineyard, located near Cunaco in the Colchagua Valley. This block was planted more than 100 years ago at a density of 4,464 plants per hectare.

Vineyard

The wine presents a pretty violet-onyx color. The nose is elegant, expressive, complex, and classic, full of aromatic layers, particularly red fruit, violets, graphite, and subtle notes of herbs and spices that lead to vibrancy on the palate, showing lots of energy and life. It's attractive and fresh with great texture and depth.

Food Pairing

This notable wine needs to accompany intense dishes like osso buco with saffron risotto, or pasta stuffed with rabbit or lamb, slow-cooked picaña, or leg of lamb with mint. Service temperature of 17–18ºC, ideally decanted prior to serving. Aging potential of 10–12 years.

Notes from Wine Searcher about 2018 in Chile

Vintage quality: Excellent

Current condition: Ready to drink, will keep.

Chile enjoyed a brilliant 2018 vintage.

A cool, wet winter followed on into a warm spring which allowed for a very successful budbreak. Conditions remained moderate allowing the grapes to slowly ripen achieving both good fruit character and balanced alcohol while retaining acidity.
