Italian Wine Collection – Tuscany’s Sangiovese & Super Tuscans
Discover the Soul of Tuscany
Italy’s wine heritage is renowned worldwide, and at its core is the Sangiovese grape, the grape that makes Chianti Classico and Brunello di Montalcino. with refreshing acidity, flavors of red fruit with savory notes - Sangiovese captures the essence of Tuscan tradition.
However, Tuscany is also recognized for its creativity this led to the development of the Super Tuscan wines that transformed the global wine industry.
At In The Cru, our Italian collection is curated by sommeliers with direct tasting experience in Tuscany. Each of our bottles is sourced from trusted estates and importers, ensuring you experience real authentic wines that represents heritage and world-class craftsmanship.
Sangiovese: Tuscany’s Signature Grape
-
Chianti Classico → Classic Sangiovese, with red cherry, herbs and bracing acidity. Food-friendly and versatile.
-
Brunello di Montalcino → 100% Sangiovese (locally known as Brunello) intense and capable of aging, with dark cherry, spice and firm tannins.
-
Vino Nobile di Montepulciano → Another historic Sangiovese wine, refined and harmonious.
Super Tuscans: Tradition Meets Innovation
In the 1960s, innovative winemakers like Sassicaia and Tignanello challenged traditions by blending Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with or instead of Sangiovese. These wines are only labelled as “Vino da Tavola” (table wine) — the lowest rank in Italian wine Italian wine law.
However, these wines quickly established themselves to be the world class, competing with Bordeaux and fetching prices accordingly. This movement created the Super Tuscan category proving that not only tradition but also innovation drives quality in Tuscany.
Understanding Italian Wine Classifications
-
DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata): Controlled designation ensuring regional authenticity and quality.
- DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita): Stricter version of DOC, government-sealed and guaranteed.
-
IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica): Greater freedom, often used for Super Tuscans experimenting outside DOC/DOCG rules.
Why Italian Wines Are Great with Food
Italian wines are made with balance and freshness in mind. They don’t overpower meals — they enhance them. Whether it’s pasta, grilled meats, or cheese, Italian wines bring out the best flavors and meant to be drunk with food.
