Vinho Verde, Minho, Portugal
100% Alvarinho
12.5% ABV
Dry White Wine
For your website, I'd leave the critic score off the main headline for now rather than use the 90-point 2023 score in a way that could be mistaken for the 2025.
š Tasting Notes
The 2025 Camaleão is a bright, elegant and mineral-driven Alvarinho with plenty of refreshing acidity but enough texture to make it more substantial than a typical light Vinho Verde.
The nose shows nectarine, white peach, citrus, green apple and orange blossom, with subtle bay leaf, floral and stony mineral notes.
On the palate, it is fresh, dry and beautifully energetic, with ripe citrus and stone fruit balanced by lively acidity. Fine lees aging gives the wine a surprisingly soft, textured mid-palate, while the finish is clean, citrusy, saline and mineral.

š Why This Alvarinho Is Interesting
It's 100% Alvarinho
Alvarinho is one of Portugal's most prized white grapes and is particularly associated with Monção e Melgaço, but this wine comes from the broader Vinho Verde/Minho region.
It's a grape worth knowing because it can produce wines with the freshness of Sauvignon Blanc, the citrus/mineral character of Chablis and the stone-fruit texture of Chardonnay.
Made by João Cabral de Almeida
Camaleão is the project of Portuguese winemaker João Cabral de Almeida, who comes from a multigenerational wine family with roots in Dão, Douro and Vinho Verde.
His background includes experience with major Portuguese producers including Esporão, Taylor's and Sogrape, before developing his own wines.
Lees aging gives it extra texture
This is one of the details I'd definitely include in your product information.
The 2025 is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel and then aged on fine lees with bâtonnage.
That helps explain why this doesn't drink like a simple, inexpensive Vinho Verde. It has texture and weight underneath the freshness.
Atlantic influence
The vineyards benefit from cool Atlantic winds, while the soils include granite, sand and clay depending on the vineyard source.
That combination contributes to the wine's freshness, citrus character and mineral/saline finish.
š½ļø Food Pairings
This is a fantastic seafood wine.
I'd recommend:
- 𦪠Oysters
- š¦ Shrimp
- š¦ Crab
- š Grilled fish
- š Octopus
- š£ Sushi
- š„ Citrus salads
- š Grilled chicken
- š§ Fresh goat cheese
- š Thai or Vietnamese dishes
- š„” Chinese cuisine
The producer/importer specifically recommends it with grilled fish, seafood, sushi, salads and Asian cuisine.

š„ Why We Love It
This is a great wine for the customer who says:
"I want something crisp and refreshing, but I don't want Sauvignon Blanc."
It's also a terrific alternative to AlbariƱo.
I'd describe the personality as:
Fresh like Sauvignon Blanc + mineral like Chablis + stone fruit like Chardonnay.
And because of the lees aging, it has enough texture to work at the dinner table rather than being just a patio-sipping wine.
