  • Grape: 100% Barbera, farmed organically
  • Vineyards: La Crena and nearby sites in Agliano Terme, one of Asti’s top areas for Barbera, plus a few other hill villages around Asti
  • Winemaking: Cold-soaked in steel, then fermented for about two weeks with native yeast. Malolactic fermentation happens in oak. It’s aged in a mix of barriques, large casks and steel, and bottled unfiltered. Vegan.
  • Alcohol: 14%. One US retailer lists 13.5%.
  • Winery tasting notes: Ruby-purple, with ripe red cherry, a mineral edge and a hint of vanilla. Medium-bodied and dry, with fresh acidity, soft tannins and a red-cherry finish.
  • Food pairings: Tomato-based pasta, lasagna, pizza, mushroom risotto, sausages, charcuterie, aged cheeses

Interesting facts

  • Carlo Vietti founded the winery in the late 1800s in Castiglione Falletto, in the heart of Barolo. It still sits on the same site.
  • 1961: Alfredo Currado made Rocche di Castiglione, one of the first single-vineyard (cru) Barolos.
  • 1967: Vietti made the first bottling of 100% Roero Arneis, which helped save the grape from near-extinction.
  • Since 1974: Many Vietti bottles carry labels designed by artists.
  • 2016: The Krause family bought the winery and has since added more Barolo and Barbaresco crus.

Title to, and Ownership of Alcoholic Beverages

Title to, and ownership of, all alcoholic beverages passes from a Licensee to the purchaser at the licensed retail premises or warehouse and state it is purchased in and the purchaser takes all responsibility for shipping it from the licensed retail premises or warehouse to his/her home state. By arranging for transportation of the alcoholic beverages, the retailer is providing a service to and acting on behalf of the purchaser. By utilizing this service, the purchaser is representing that he/she is acting in a fashion compliant with his/her local and state laws regarding the purchase, transportation, and delivery of alcoholic beverages. The purchaser represents that he/she has obtained any required permission, paid any required fees, is working through properly licensed intermediaries where required, is legally entitled to take possession of alcoholic beverages, and is legally entitled to take quantities ordered and once again authorizes that he/she is 21 years of age.

International Shipping

Generally, we do not ship internationally, as some countries have restrictions on wine/sake shipping. Please send an email to elizabeth@inthecru.com before purchasing. In all cases, local taxes and shipping will be paid by the purchaser.

Signature Policy

For successful delivery of your wine or sake on the initial try, we highly advise selecting an address where an individual aged at least 21 is present to sign for the package. Legally, wine cannot be left without such a signature. Unfortunately, we are unable to refund shipping fees for packages returned due to the absence of an adult for signing. Shipments cannot be sent to APOs, FPOs, or P.O. boxes. Additionally, deliveries will not be made to individuals deemed intoxicated by the driver.
